Obituary for Johnnie M. Howard Mr.

Johnnie M. Howard was born in Whitehall, Alabama, August 9, 1919. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother James (“Pudden”) Howard; his beloved wife Cathryn and son Richard, Sr. Johnnie served in the United States Army WWII. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945. He relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after the military and became employed with various Construction Companies in the Pittsburgh area. He worked many years as a Teamster until his retirement December 31, 1985.Johnnie enjoyed his life. Hunting, fishing and gardening were among his favorite pastimes. He loved to have family and friends at his home for cook-outs and just to have fun.Johnnie was well liked especially by the VA Hospital staff where he was a Dialysis Out-Patient. He enjoyed the good care and attention he received there, especially from some of the female nurses. He was kind of spoiled by them.He was mild mannered and enjoyed sitting at home in his recliner chair watching the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games and the old western movies on his television.Although he was aging, lived alone, he requested to remain in his home and not a nursing home facility. His request was honored with the help of a nephew Harry (Icky) Anderson and other family members.Suddenly, Sunday afternoon January 27, 2013, he made the transition to his eternal home where he joined family members and friends who have gone before him.“Dad”, “Papap”, “Uncle Johnnie”, we love you dearly and will miss you.He leaves to cherish his loving memories forever; his daughter Lela Matthews; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; loving nieces and nephews; sisters and brothers-in-law; other relatives, wonderful neighbors and friends.
