Brown confessed a belief in Jesus Christ at an early age at Palo Alto Baptist Church. At age 18 Rev. Brown was drafted into the Army Air Corps where he served in World War II for 4 years and 10 months. Throughout his travels he met Eva Johnson at the Open Door Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH and married her in 1950.In 1961, Rev. and Mrs. Calvin Brown were called to Beaver Falls, PA, where he became the pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.Rev. Brown wanted to be involved in the City and began his employment with the Economy Supermarket which was renamed Foodland under the management of Tony Ondrusek. There he had the opportunity to meet the people of the community and become the pastor to some of them. He would visit the sick in the hospital of those he knew and those he did not, this is one of the ways he became the respected person that he was. He was also known to be a regular at McDonald’s, Athens Restaurant and The Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe.Rev. Brown was an advocate for the youth, coaching Tabernacle Baptist Boys Basketball team during the 1970’s and being a spokesperson for them when needed in the community. Brown formed the TBC Youth Jr. Choir under the direction of Mrs. Pearl Gilliam, and was a faithful leaver at V.B.S. After receiving a vision from God to erect a new church, he established the Building Fund with the help of the people who had a mind to work. This vision of the new sanctuary came in to fruition in 1973. He later formed the group, Sons of Thunder. Over the years many additions were added to the church, he gave to the community endlessly and tirelessly up until he left the area in November of this past year. He was very fruitful in the ministry, whereby 17 sons and 1 daughter were called into the ministry under his leadership, some of which have gone on to be with the Lord and others currently have their own churches. There are 6 grandsons/granddaughters now in the ministry. He retired from the pulpit of Tabernacle Baptist Church with a grand retirement celebration in 2007, but never as a pastor. He was later blessed with the title and role of Emeritus Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church.Rev. Brown was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva Mae Brown; his parents; his brothers, Richard, Henry and Walter Brown; his sisters, Arnella Spates, Geraldine Brown and Novella Mitchell, and a special niece, Ernestine Griffin.Rev.
