Vernita A. Beasley of Pittsburgh, PA departed this life on January 18, 2022.
Vernita was born on December 26, 1958, in Jacksonville, FL to the union of Willie and Annie B Matthews. She was a member of Tabernacle Cosmopolitan Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a deaconess, trustee and president of the Nurses’ Ministry. Vernita was a registered nurse and served in the US Air Force. She worked at UPMC until she was forced to retire due to her illness.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Beasley; one daughter, Nakia (Marc) Granberg, of Pittsburgh, PA; her father Willie Matthews of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, DeWayne Wade of TX, Joel (JoeAnn) Matthews of Kyle, TX, and Cornelius (Vedia) Matthews of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Gwen (Earl) Mathis of Jacksonville, FL and Stella (Paul) Wade of Jacksonville, FL; a host of nieces and nephews; and a loving extended family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Annie B Matthews, and a brother, Larry Matthews.
Due to the large number of COVID cases, the family will be holding a private graveside service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
