Reita Mae Moughan Evans in Pittsburgh, PA. She departed this temporal life in preference
to life eternal on January 11, 2023, at her home.
Shirley was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools where she attended Westinghouse
High School. Upon graduation she attended the University of Pittsburgh General studies
and began a career in the Internal Revenue Service in Pittsburgh as a tax examiner and was
later selected as Tax Auditor before transferring to their Los Angeles office. She later held
several managerial positions, including PSP Classification and District EEO Officer and
opened the way to hiring handicapped employees. She later was the District’s first Training

today. Shirley held the position of Office Audit Branch Chief in Office Examination at the El
Monte, CA office managing every office except Van Nuys before retiring after 38 years of
service in 1990.
On August 20, 1966. Shirley was united in holy wedlock to Edward J. Miller, and the couple
relocated to Los Angeles, California.
She was a fan of the arts and enjoyed crossword puzzles, the Steelers, theatre, sewing,
reading, crochet and needlepoint. Shen enjoyed all genres of music and in her later years
became a fan of Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse, but loved Prince.
A point of maturity was reached in Shirley’s life when she professed a hope in Christ and
united with the fellowship of the Homewood A.M.E Zion Church where she served as an
usher. She later fellowshipped at Bethel A.M.E. in Los Angeles serving as trustee. Upon
retirement and her subsequent return to Pittsburgh, she joined the Mount Ararat Baptist
