Ruby Whitner Maroney was born in Greenville, South Carolina on December 20, 1933 to the late Andrew Whitner and Mamie Little Thompson. The family relocated to Pittsburgh when she was a child, living in the Hill District neighborhood. Ruby attended Pittsburgh Public Schools.She was married to the late Clewell R. Maroney on October 7, 1953 by Reverend Arthur Griggs. One daughter Diane was born to their union. Ruby was a former employee for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Home Health Care Aide. Also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was baptized on October 5, 1980 at The Covennant Who So Ever Will Church.Ruby is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. On July 5, 2017 she passed away quietly at home in Stanton Heights.She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Diane Maroney; two sisters, Ruth Whitner Young and Leonarda Butler; grandchildren, Kaya, Nia, and Kelli Payne, Dynasti Lewis, Kelsey Fields, and Clinton Wanyoike, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives ad friends.
