Obituary for Reginald A. Brown Sr.

Reginald Alfred Brown, Sr. (Reggie) was born December 6, 1958, to the late Burton Callahan Brown, Sr. and Carmella Mae Hopson-Brown. Reginald was raised in the Larimer section of Pittsburgh, attending the Larimer School and later graduating from Westinghouse High School in 1978. While at Westinghouse, Reggie met and begin courting his classmate, Diane Irene Sparrow, from nearby Homewood.
After graduation, Reginald married his high school sweetheart Diane at her parent’s home on July 4, 1981. From their union was born Reginald, Jr. and Ryan. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Cornerstone Baptist Church alongside his son, Reggie, Jr. With his kind and compassionate heart, he sought employment at the Carnegie Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians in Oakland, for those who are unable to read standard sized newsprint, unable to hold a book or turn pages, or who have a physically-based reading disability.
Reggie was good with his hands, becoming a “man-of-all-work,” taking a fixer-upper and transforming it into a showplace for his wife and family to grow and prosper. He was a caring, giving person who was welcoming of family and friends at his home. He was a great dad to his own children and a father to the father-less. He became Maintenance Manager at the East Hills Housing Development for nearly 20 years, where he used his craft to help countless people with home repairs and remodeling condemned units with his son Ryan and family friend, Phil Jones.
His pastimes included rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, watching horror flicks like “The Walking Dead” and westerns like “Maverick,” boating, fishing and collecting treasures. He was known to sometimes take a gamble. Lottery. Scratch-offs. Casinos. Often the gambles paid off.
Reggie was a very talented and creative man with an artistic flair, exhibited in an immaculate garden and a collection of his own hand-painted artwork. Ever since he was a teenager, Reggie became interested in the study of geology. Over the course of 50 years, he amassed an extensive collection of geodes, fossils, rocks, minerals and precious gemstones. He also enjoyed going to annual rock & mineral shows throughout Western Pennsylvania.
Preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 28 years, Diane; his brother Allan, and sister Deneece. Reggie leaves to cherish his memory, sons Reggie (JaQuay) and Ryan; nieces/daughters Kayla and Shayla; siblings Burton, Jr., Darrel (Charlene) and Carla; grandchildren Julian, Royale, Rhy’an, Rhy’lynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives, neighbors and friends, who would have nothing but fond memories of him as a good man.
Later on…“Well done, my good and faithful servant.” -Matthew 25:23
