Obituary for Mary Jane Griggs

Mary Jane Isaac-Griggs was born March 4th, 1928, to the late James Frank Sims and Ora Bullock-Sims. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, Mary Jane moved to Washington D.C. to work for the Internal Revenue Service. She quickly became one of their top stenographers.

While working, she married Jerry Isaac Senior in 1946. Together, they had four children: Ora (Nonie) Jackson, Jerry Isaac Junior, Geneva Jane (Shing) Isaac, and Lisa Moon. After returning to Pittsburgh P.A., she furthered her career by becoming the director of the Homewood-Brushton Community Action Board. Later working at BJDC helping small businesses get started. Because of her love for her community, she then became an activist and politician in Penn Hills P.A. at the Lincoln Park Community Center. As a result of all of her hard work in the community, she became the director of the Lincoln Park Community Center. She served at this capacity until her retirement. In 1988, Mary Jane married Alvin Griggs and they spent 24 years together until he passed away in 2012.

Mary Jane spent her last days at Concordia Nursing Home in Monroeville PA. She was called home April 7th 2022. She is proceeded in death by her parents, her siblings (Frankie Williams) and (Walter Sims), two of children Ora (Nonie) and Geneva (Shing) and widowed twice. She is survived by her children Jerry Isaac Jr. (Juanita), Lisa Moon (James) and adoptive daughter Lavel Claytor, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
