OBITUARY

Marvin Jerome Hawes, Jr. born to his life on June 30, 1970. He was the oldest of two children born to Marvin Hawes, Sr. and Sharon Hawes Sloan. Marvin graduated from Peabody High School in June 1988. He then attended Morgan State University majoring in Architectural Engineering and he later graduated from Pittsburgh Technical Institute with a certificate in Computer-Aided Drafting Architectural (CAD). He played many sports in high school and as a young child, including football, wrestling and baseball. He enjoyed keeping busy.

Marvin accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church in West Mifflin. Marvin was well known for the gift of encouragement that God blessed him with.

Marvin worked at many Pittsburgh engineering firms as a Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Technician. He also worked at Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority. He designed many things around the Pittsburgh area during this time. Later Marvin moved to Maryland and worked as a CADD Engineer for the Capital of the Architect and stationed in the United States Senate Office Buildings, which was his job upon his death.

“Shoobey” as he was affectionately known by family and friends was united in marriage to Ithania Ellerbe on February 15, 1997. Out of this union, one child was born, Amina Sierra Hawes. Shoobey also had an older child, Jazmine Faatima Hawes and became stepdad to Inaya Stephenson. Shoobey loved his children and always made sure that they spent time together. He was known as the “life of the party” and a “Johnny come lately”. Marvin loved his family and his friends. He was well loved by many and had a way of making everyone feel special. Shoobey was known for his lively debates on religion, politics, basketball, football, and for pushing the envelope, which all who knew him knew so well.

Marvin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Lella Coles and his paternal grandparents, Holden and Lula Mae Hawes.

Marvin leaves to celebrate his life and homegoing his mother, Sharon R. Hawes Sloan of East Liberty; his father, Marvin J. Hawes, Sr. of Swissvale, PA; his stepdad, Milford R. Sloan of East Liberty; his daughters, Jazmine Hawes of Atlanta, Georgia; Amina Hawes of Coraopolis, PA; stepdaughter, Inaya Stephenson of East Liberty; his brother, Jamah (Shalonda) Hawes of White Plains, MD; his stepbrother, Baylon (Wendy) Sloan of Castle Shannon, PA; his godfather Allen Payne, nieces, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
