Obituary for Margaret Flenory

Margaret Thurman Flenory, beloved daughter of the late Fox Thurman and Beadie Starks Thurman was born on December 9, 1923, in Troy Alabama. She was the youngest daughter and the last to transition of eleven children. She departed peacefully from this life to eternal life on Wednesday September 1, 2021.

Margaret was raised in Troy AL, educated in the Pike County Schools, and was baptized at an early age. At the age of 19, she migrated to Pittsburgh, PA with her late husband Calvin Flenory. From their union seven children were born, two surviving daughters: Margaret Ann Johnson and Paula Flenory both of Pittsburgh, PA and five children that preceded her in death: Earlene Brent, Calvin Flenory Jr., Marvin Flenory, Valinda Blair, and an infant daughter. She was also preceded in death by two Grandsons: Milton Richard Johnson Jr. and Philip Robinson, and a Great Grandson, Mycheal Johnson.

Margaret loved the Lord and served Him by using her gift of poetry and songwriting. Well up into her 90’s she could be found at area Churches singing songs she authored: “Hello Sunshine” or “Jesus Came to See About Me,” or reciting the Power of Prayer, or her rendition of the 23rd Psalm. From her recitations she became known as the Psalms 23 Lady. Margaret also loved her family and her Church family. Margaret was an active member of the Beulah Baptist Church in Beltzhoover until she had a stroke in 2019. She served as a Deaconess and sang with her Beulah Baptist Church Choir until about three years ago when her 94 yr old legs wouldn't allow her to continue. Margaret was an encourager and a worshiper and shared her faith up until she took her last breath at the Highland Park Nursing on September 1, 2021.

The Bible says God told man to be fruitful and to multiply and Margaret would gleefully say her family did their part. She leaves to mourn four generations of loved ones: two daughters and a daughter in law, 13 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, and 10 Great Great Grandchildren.
