Jon Ricardo Armes was born on July 20, 1950, the son of the late John V. Armes, and Thelma Respass Armes. Jon attended and graduated in June of 1968, from David B. Oliver High School.
Jon, (who was sometimes called Little Jon or Ricky), began working at an early age “making the donuts” at the University of Pittsburgh while in high school. After graduation, he attended a year at Cheyney University then transferred to Parkway West Technical School and Bidwell Training Center where he graduated and became a licensed journeyman carpenter. He developed a desire to continue working in this field doing union and non-union jobs. He also worked at Signia Housing Complex in Homewood for approximately ten years as their “maintenance man”, before working for himself as a carpenter until his retirement.
In midlife, Jon accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and attended the Allegheny Center Alliance Church. Until his passing, he loved to talk about the Lord and share the gospel of Christ to everyone. He was compassionate about the youth in the Manchester area, and was one of several who initiated the beginning of the “Old Timers” organization.
He played all sports and was an advent sports fan who loved watching sports especially the NBA and his favorite Pittsburgh Steelers. He was also a self proclaimed political commentator!
In Junior High, Jon met Yvonne Cobb and after a long-long courtship, they married on July 23, 1982. They have one child, Tonya Y. Armes. He was a devoted father and husband, one who loved his wife, daughter and family dearly. On May 9, 2019 the Lord unexpectedly called Jon home and to cherish his memories his wife, Yvonne, daughter Tonya, mother-in-law Willie Maxwell, sister-in-law Martha Edmonds, his dog, Peanut and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and brother Dennis Armes. Jon will be truly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations and gift cards to the family would be greatly appreciated.
