Obituary for John W. Cook Jr.

John W. Cook, Jr, was born on August 29, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pa and passed away on Thursday, February 1,2024 at Shadyside Hospital. He was the son of the late John W. and Irene Cook. A graduate of Westinghouse High School, John worked at several jewelry stores in downtown Pittsburgh for 10 years. After leaving these jobs, he got a job at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in the maintenance department until he retired.

John was an avid train collector and had a setup in the basement of our mother’s house. He loved going to train shows around the Tri-State Area. He was also a great roller skater and skated at the old Bridgeville rink, Neville Island, Monessen, and Youngstown, Ohio roller skating rinks even up into his 70’s. At one time, he was supplying the music to skate by at the old Bridgeville Skating Rink during the time it was opened.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Cook, Sr and Irene Cook, and a sister, Beverly. John is survived by his sister Jacqueline of Pittsburgh, a brother, Richard of Washington Courthouse, Ohio, nephews, Brian and Derrick Cook, niece, Sheree, great-nephews, Ke’Vahn Marks and Desmond Cook, great-niece, Ji’Kaialh Marks, all from Washington Courthouse, Ohio, great-niece, Kaleetia Marks of Dayton, Ohio, great-niece, Asaisha Cook of Westerville, Ohio, and a great-great-nephew, Devon Bankston, Jr from Dayton and many cousins.

The family will be holding a memorial service for John at a later date.
