James Clarence Evans, known by everyone as “Jay” was the son of the late James E. Evans and LaGene Wilson Evans. Born on June 22, 1965 at West Penn Hospital, he grew up in Pittsburgh, East Liberty, and Larimer areas. Jay attended Lincoln Elementary School, Reizenstein Middle School, Westinghouse High School, and The Craig House. He earned his general education degree from Connelly Trade School. In 1997, Jay relocated to Wilkinsburg, where he resided for over twenty years.

Jay had a sincere love for God and a firm foundation. He was raised up at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he was baptized at a young age. He participated in weekly family bible Studies, led by Pastor Floyd Palmer, for more than twenty years. he enjoyed weightlifting, and as a teenager, he was known to have the biggest muscles in the neighborhood. He enjoyed nature, music, being around his family and going fishing with his friends, nieces, and nephews. Never married, Jay was a bachelor, and he loved the ladies.

Jay enjoyed frying the fish he caught, which led him to a career in the dietary and food service industry. He was employed at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, and Goodwill Industries where he was a cook for the Police Academy. In addition, Jay was a skilled landscaper, and he had his own clientele.

Unfortunately, in 1993, Jay was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). In the late 2000s, the MS started to take a toll on his body , and it slowed him down. Through it all, Jay was meek, humble, loving, patient, God-fearing, family- oriented, and he never complained. Jay would give his last to anyone, especially his nieces, nephews, great- nephews; he treated them as if they were his own children.

On July 7, 2020, Jay took ill, and he was admitted into Mercy Hospital. He remained in the hospital until the Most High God called him home on August 10, 2020. Jay left this earth to join his late father James E. Evans. Jay leaves behind to cherish him his beloved devoted mother LaGene Evans, his five siblings Lynn, John, Leah, LaGene “Libby”, brother-in-law Jay, and baby sister Lydia, his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews ; Shane, Stormy, Shala, Josh, Jalyn, Terell, Breona, Tyla, Semaj, Keyshawn, Niylaah, Ny’zir, Jade Amari, Noah, and 1 nephew-in-law Jamee, Aunt Marion Bonnie Watkins, and a host of cousins and friends.
