Emma Doris Hill was born in Belzoni, Mississippi on August 4, 1940, to Sam Hill and Louise Williams Hill. She departed this life on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

Emma relocated to Pittsburgh as a young adult. She began working as a domestic worker. And later began working at the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel in the Housekeeping Department and later as a telephone operator with the Hilton. Emma received numerous employee awards. She also participated in Management Training Interaction classes at Community College of Allegheny County CCAC. Emma also worked a second job as a Car Service Driver (Jitney). The extra money helped her to pay off her 30-year mortgage in 10 years.

Emma is a beloved Family Member of Petra International Ministries, where she participated in the Forever Young Senior Ministry. She loved worship and praise. Emma is a longtime resident and homeowner of the East Hills community. Her neighbors looked out for her. She loved sitting outside during the warm weather. The past year Emma became a resident of a senior nursing facility where she enjoyed playing BINGO, Balloon Volleyball, Badminton and Name That Tune. She received frequent manicures and participated in the weekly Church Service and outside adventures.

The love of Emma’s life was her only child, Lorenzo. She supported him throughout his life. His medical issues led to an early death in 2012. Emma also loved her grandchildren and their children Maurice, Jimmy and Latasha.

Emma was proceeded in death by her parents, 4 sisters: Augusta, Floria, Virgia and Velma. 5 brothers: J.P., Dexter, Charles, John and Sam Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren and great grandchildren, one brother Willie James (Orlando, Florida), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Sending a special thanks to Minister Tammy and Deacon Dorretta for acts of loving support for 11 years. And a special acknowledgement to Emma’s niece, Doris Ann Lewis of Raymond, Mississippi for her continued telephone calls and special gift baskets sent over the years.
