Obituary

Eugene A. Lincoln was born in Tallahassee, Florida on August 27, 1934 to the late M.L Lincoln and Carrie Lincoln Johnson.

At an early age, he moved with his family to Belle Glade, Florida. In Elementary school he decided he wanted to become a teacher. After graduating from Everglades Vocational High School, he went on to Florida A&M University on an ROTC scholarship. He graduated with a B.S. in Biology in 1956.

He served as an officer in the Army Medical Services Corps and was on active duty in Korea in between 1956 and 1957. He rose to the rank of Captain and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1969.

After completing his active duty commitment, he attended Indiana University where he received an Ed. D. Degree in 1967.

In 1967, he joined the faculty at Kentucky State College where he taught in the School of Education. In 1969, he accepted a position as Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education where he taught with distinction for over 43 years. During his tenure, he published two books and had several articles published in Education journals.

While teaching at Pitt, he went to Law School at Duquesne University, graduating with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1976. He practiced law in Pennsylvania for more than 30 years. His later years were devoted working in the field of Special Education law, where he worked tirelessly to ensure students with learning challenges received the resources and support needed to receive the quality of education required by law.

He was an active member of the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church where he and his wife Luevonue set up a scholarship fund to assist African American students to achieve their educational goals. He was also on the Board of Directors for the Urban League Charter School.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 55 years Luevonue, sisters Rosa Lee Bryant, Margaret Ellis, and a brother Roosevelt Lincoln.

He leaves to mourn his sons Darryl (Tami) of Oneonta, New York, Brian of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Randal (Stella) of Columbia, South Carolina, sisters Gertude Betsy of Quincy, Florida, Erma Jean Gilliam of Daytona Beach, Florida, Trudie L. Irving of Bartow Florida, and Melvin Lincoln of Riviera Beach, Florida. He also leaves 5 grandchildren: Daniel, David, Tiffani, Kenton, and Kristen.

A man of few words, Eugene, at a time like this would simply tell us to “Keep on Keepin’ On”!

In the days ahead, we will remember his charge and we will “Keep on Keepin’ On”!
