Bruce Edward Green Sr. was born on September 24, 1953 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the fourth child born to Lydia Mae (Brown) Green of Pittsburgh, and Pernell Edmund Green, Sr. also of Pittsburgh, (formerly of Anniston, Alabama).
When Bruce was just an infant, the family moved to a farm in Upper Burrell Township (on the outskirts of New Kensington, Pennsylvania). Bruce enjoyed a happy childhood playing on the farm, and helping his father with the care of the farm animals. Bruce attended Upper Burrell Elementary School, where he was a good student and a member of a local Cub Scout troop.
In 1964 the family moved to the city of New Kensington where Bruce attended schools there until the family moved to the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh. By that time, Bruce was a senior in high school and completed his last year by graduating from Westinghouse High School in 1971. Bruce attended the New Kensington Campus of Penn State University for one year. However, he decided that college was not his niche at that time and ventured into the world of sales.
Bruce started his sales career selling Hoover vacuum sweepers door to door. He went on to selling appliances for Kelly & Cohen, then on to the Appliance Store where he was often the top Salesman of the Month, and also the top Salesman for the Year. Bruce continued his sales career at Value City Furniture where he received ongoing recognition for his outstanding sales ability. He retired from Value
City in 2016. His success as a salesman was second to none!
Bruce married Patricia Diane Worthy on August 1977. Bruce and “Patty” raised two beautiful children, Bruce Edward II and Kelly Patrice Green. Bruce was 100% a family man; not just for his immediate family, but for his extended family as well. He tried to attend every family function that he could, and often videotaped these events.
Bruce loved his family, and adored his grandchildren. He was a sports fan and could hold his own in a conversation about the hometown Pittsburgh Steelers as well as other teams. He enjoyed cooking on the grill for family, and attending family events. Bruce also followed all current events, especially what was going on in the world of politics.
Bruce was a man of faith, and regularly attended church services at St. James and visited Central Baptist Church. Bruce departed this life on April 20, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia,
Son: Bruce ll,(wife, Dominique, son, Donovann, and baby Kerrigan Green,) Daughter: Kelly Leonard of Clinton, MD and her children Dorian Jordan & Winter Leonard; Sisters Lydia (Green) Williamson & husband Brady Williamson of Pittsburgh, & Sara (Green) Bowles & Donald Young of Cincinnati, Ohio.
He also leaves to mourn his passing aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, a host of cousins and many, many friends. His mother Lydia Mae Green, his father Pernell Green Sr., and his brother Pernell Green Jr. preceded him in death.
There are no words to express how much Bruce was loved and how very, very much he will be missed by all who knew him.
