Alan Moore

Alan Moore is the youngest child born to Wesley and Claudia Moore on March 15, 1948 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on October 19, 2018.

Alan was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System and graduated from Schenley High School. He was employed by Yellow Cab Company as a Cab Maintenance Tech and proudly retired after working over 42 years.

On November 17, 1984, married Marlene Byars and blended a family to include five lovely children: Christine, Christopher, Andrea, John and Joanne, as well as a plethora of adopted children, especially Carmella. All of which, they managed to make each one feel special. Alan and Marlene built a home of hospitality and laughter, in which most people enjoyed the peace, joy, and especially the food.

Alan had so many facets to his life. Although he appeared to have a quiet demeanor, his interests were insurmountable. He really loved music, especially Jazz and Gospel Music. He was a musician in his own right as a bass guitarist. He played with national gospel recording artists such as Richard Smallwood, Donnie McClurklin, and Vicki Winans, just name a few. His former hobbies included photography, motorcycles, hunting (archery and guns), fishing, bowling, golfing and martial arts. Alan was always an avid reader and was known for his intellect and wit. In addition, he enjoyed playing games on his IPad. He took pleasure in acquiring the latest gadgets and most importantly, he was a true Pittsburgh Steeler fan.

Alan attended Triumph the Church of Kingdom of God In Christ as a child. In the 1980’s, he joined The Lord’s Church under the late Rev. Archie Dennis, Sr., where he accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized. He served the music ministry by playing the bass and worked security during the conferences. Alan later joined Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, where Rev. Dr. William H. Curtis is the pastor. When he was unable to make it to church, he watched the service on his IPad.

In 2009, Alan was diagnosed with a type of cancer called Multiple Myeloma. He showed courage and strength with two stem cell transplants, numerous chemo and radiation treatments. He fought this disease with all of his might. Although in severe pain, he never complained. On October 19, 2018, Alan went home to be with the Lord and is now at rest.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, the late Wesley Moore, Jr., and his granddaughter, Shelell. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Marlene; his children: Christine Noel (Mark), Christopher Arter (and his mother, Carla), Andrea Moore (and her mother, Lynn), John Byars and Carmella Dearman of Pittsburgh, PA, and Joanne Wallington (Keith) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; his sister, Janet Cammon; grandchildren: LaChrisha, Marlan, Terrel, Casey, Nataja, Marcia, Mark, Antoine, Dashaei, John III, Johnell, Latausha, Antoinette, Kennedy, Kameron, Keith, Jr., Johnell, and Lailah and 18 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
