Obituary for Bertha Johnson

Bertha Johnson was born on December 31, 1945 in Steubenville, Ohio. She
transitioned from labor to rest in the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2020. Per 2
Timothy 4:7, “She fought the good fight, she finished the race, and she kept the
faith.” Bertha’s greatest joy was not found in the things of this world, but in her
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Along with being a worshipper and a prayer warrior,
she was a devoted wife, loving mother, beloved sister and faithful friend. Bertha
possessed the powerful gifts of encouraging others and faith that could move
mountains. When our faith often struggled, hers never did. Her favorite saying
was “Believe God! God has a plan.”
She was preceded in death by her parents - Morgan and Dixie Mitchell; husband -
Marshall Johnson; three sisters - Lucy Petteway, Lillie Belle Palmer, and Doretha
Cochrane; and two brothers - Thomas McClyde and Henry Mitchell.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children Traci Johnson,
Alexandra Johnson, and Bryan Johnson; six grandchildren; brothers - Morgan
(Peggy) Mitchell of Massillon, OH; Robert (Sandra) Mitchell of Weirton, WV; Kevin
Mitchell of Columbus, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
7  For we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our
confident belief in God’s promises]—  8  we are [as I was saying] of good
courage and confident hope, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to
be at home with the Lord.  9  Therefore, whether we are at home [on earth] or away
from home [and with Him], it is our [constant] ambition to be pleasing to Him.
2 Corinthians 5:7-9 AMP
